ライティングノートの作成

IELTSのライティングは採点基準も厳しく、たくさんの生徒様がスコアアップに苦しむセクションですが、効果的な勉強法方法を取り入れていち早く目標スコアを達成しましょう。その中でライティングも復習がとても大事です。復習をする際に必ずライティングノートを作成しましょう。

ライティングノートとは、IELTSライティングのサンプルアンサーやリーディング、参考書から学んだ表現や語彙、言い換え表現を自分でまとめたノートのことを指します。ライティングのスコアを向上するためには、ライティングノートを地道に作成し、アカデミックな表現の仕方を自由に使いこなすことが非常に大切です。

今回は、ライティングノート作成・使用の上で重要なポイントを4点お伝えいたします。

ライティングノート作成時の注意点

①定期的な復習を心がける

自分が集めた単語集、表現、コロケーション(連語)集は、定期的に復習をすることが重要です。時間を費やして作成したにも関わらず、見直しをしなければ無駄になります。またライティングの問題に取り組む際には、ノートに書き留めた表現などを使い知識として定着させましょう。

使えこなせるようにするためには？　

表現を書き出した欄にサンプル例文を入れ、その表現を利用し自分自身でも文章を作成してみましょう。もし覚えていても使えなければ、覚えていることにはなりません。必ず例文を見て使い方を理解し、実践することが使いこなすための第一歩となります。これはライティングノートだけではなく、単語帳の作成にも同様に言えることです。

②言い換え表現をメモする

言い換え表現は、IELTSリスニング、リーディング、ライティング、スピーキングの全セクションで大いに役立つと言っても過言ではありません。例えば、

Environmentally friendly (環境にやさしい)
 environmentally sustainable
 go green
 ecologically sound  

上記のように派生語として一緒に覚えることで、スピーキングテストでも応用が利き、自由に自分の意見を表現することができます。言い換え表現はどの場面でも利用できるので、必ずライティングノートに書き留めておきましょう。

③サンプルアンサーを書き写す

サンプルアンサーを書き写すことで使える例文の他、文のつながりや構成などを自然に身に付けることができます。また課題に対する考え方も理解ができ、解答に対しての文字数も把握できるなど多くのメリットがありますので、必ずサンプルアンサーは皆さんのライティングノートに入れてください。

Some people think reading stories in books is better than watching TV or playing computer games for children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

While it has been said that reading books for pleasure rather than watching TV is more beneficial for one’s imagination and acquiring language skills, I largely agree with the statement that that the role of the former in boosting intelligence and language ability.

On the one hand, some who think that watching TV is considered more important activity than reading may argue that the audio-visual effects are so powerful and appeal a wide range of audiences. With visuals, people even children have a better understanding of stories by seizing images of the footage. Some TV programs are also educational where quiz shows serves as an efficient learning tool for both children and adults. The most importantly, the role of TV in boosting linguistic competence is pivotal. Recent English programs not only support the audience to remember words easily by associating them with vivid images but catch their constant attention with entertaining aspects.

On the other hand, I believe that books are instrumental in enhancing children’s imagination. A child reading a fairy tale with illustration will have to think, fantasize and use their creativeness to comprehend ideas and reasoning, which in tum sharpen their intellectual abilities. Moreover, reading books helps to improve language skills more than TV can. Spending time reading a book leads to the development of a strong language base referring to its vocabulary and expressions, and comprehending the meaning of a word in different contexts. Besides, reading out a book for children is also an effective way to help them improve their communication skills.

In conclusion while the benefits of watching TV are undeniable with powerful visual and entertaining appeal, those of reading books cannot be outweighed due to the cultivation of imagination and intellectual skills.

④文法構造の複雑な英作文を抜き出す

最後はBBCニュースやサンプルアンサーから文法構造が複雑な英作文を抜き出し、英作文の練習をしましょう。

IELTSのライティングでは短文を並べても点数は取得できません。最低でも6.0を取得するためには、少しでも複文を取り入れていく必要があります。そして6.5～7.0の高得点を目指す方は、頻繁に複文を利用することが求められます。

1、接続詞を文と文の間に入れるケース　（重文）
　I like playing outside and my sister likes staying inside. 

2、関係代名詞を利用するケース（複文）
　1) Children who play outside have more physical strength.
　2) Children who play outside have more physical strength. 

3、1と2を合わせたケース　（重複文）
Some people who think having old friends is better may argue that they can understand well and respect each other.

上記3点が高得点を取得するために必要な要素となりますので、日頃から単文ばかりを英作するのではなく、長い文章にすることを心がけましょう。
